My dog Elton
A couple of weeks ago my nan brought my dog, Elton, into class for everyone to see. Elton is only 10 weeks old so he is still a puppy. He likes to chew jandles and socks. He also likes to lick people's faces. A3 loves Elton and so do I.

Yr 6 Orientation at Rotorua Intermediate.
We got to try out 2 different activities, that was all we were allowed to do.
I did food technology, it was really fun. I was the cook and my buddy was Garnet. The parent at our station was my dad. I forgot the name of what we made but it was delicious.
The next thing I did was music, it was also fun. We said a poem that is called a round. Then after we did that we said it with untuned instruments, it sounded really cool. After that we got to play on the pianos. They are black. We got to play on one by ourselves and we got to press any number. We then played a tune on the piano, it was the tune of Hot Cross Buns. I liked playing on the piano, it was fun.
After that, we went back to school from a long afternoon there and I had to do road patrol.

Te Kura o Glenholme School Haka
We have another recording and here you will see us learning our school haka.
Our haka is based on our school's 'go for it' attitude.
Like the waiata, Karangatia Ra, we are still learning to perfect our performance so it's a work in progress at the moment.
We are learning to put lots of emphasis into our actions by using our bodies effectively, especially our eyes, to convey a 'challenge'. We are also learning to keep a steady pace and not rush through it. It's also important that we pronounce the words accurately. Lastly, we are learning to simply 'give it heaps'!!
Mrs Vercoe says the boys should be all puffed out, breathing heavily, and red faced at the end of it.
We hope you like our haka. Please share your comments and feedback :)

Waiata - Karangatia Ra
This is our class learning and practising the waiata 'Karangatia Ra'.
We haven't nailed it just yet. We have some sharpening to do and are still working towards a perfect performance.
Our specific focii during practises have been on correct pronunciation of the words, projecting our voices, and keeping the actions crisp and in time.
Hopefully you will enjoy viewing our recording of this waiata.
We welcome your comments and feedback. Thank you :)

Horses
Horses have four legs that are very very strong to help them balance. They have two eyes two ears, one nose, a mane and a tail.
Horses live in lots of different places like farms, paddocks, stables, the wild, zoos and animal circuses.
Horses run, jump and gallop alot. They also go to yhe toilet and eat.
Life cycle:
Horses start as a foal (male) or a filly (female). During the first 12 months the foal/filly has long legs compared to its body. Two months later it will stop drinking from its dam (mother).
Did you know?
The foal or filly is born with no teeth. as it gets older, the horse grows teeth.
After this it goes onto the middle years. These are when it is 5-10 years old. By then the horse is fully formed. After this stage it is into the late years when the joints become puffy as the circulation might become less effertive.

Hemi's new earthquake game
As a practice, I made up a game. Mrs Vercoe has to say eathquake 2 times and A3 has to go under the tables fast.
You have to go under 5 tables then it gets harder each time because you then go under 4 tables then 3 tables and 2 tables until there's only one table left.
You get out when you can't fit under a table.
Hemi was inspired by Mrs Stevens when she called the drill over the speakers.

Interschool sports. (By Tiana)
All of the netball and rugby people played at Glenholme.
Lynmore had no miniball team so almost all of the miniball people went to other classes.
Some of the miniball people stayed with their own teachers.
Mrs Owen and Mrs Norton came to Lynmore and Mrs Vercoe and Ms J stayed at Glenholme.

Eggy Schmeggy
During week 6 we had rotations on different topics. On Friday the 28th of May we had Eggy Schmeggy with Mrs Vercoe. Firstly, in our groups we cracked open an egg and looked at the 3 major parts which were the shell, the yolk and the white. Another name for the egg white is albumen. We also talked about some detailed parts of an egg which are chalazae, membranes, and air cell. After that we drew a diagram with labels. My diagram is the image at the top.
Following that we predicted what happens when parts of an egg are beaten. We separated the yolk from the white of an egg and put them in separate bowls. We also had a yolk and it's white in another bowl together so we had 3 bowls altogether.
Mrs Vercoe used her electric beater to mix the bowl contents for 1 minute each. We watched each beating and noticed how the eggs changed. The egg white had changed to a bright white colour and went all fluffy. The egg yolk stayed the same colour and didn't fluff up. The egg white and yolk together became partly fluffy and the colour changed to a pale yellow. The images below show the eggs after they had been beaten and Mrs Vercoe beating the egg white and yolk together.

Mrs Vercoe boiled some eggs for 10 minutes and we predicted what the eggs would like look after two minute intervals. The ten minute egg was fully cooked and the colour changed to a lighter yellow. It was bright yellow before it was cooked. The two minute egg was hardly cooked and still very runny. It was a bright yellow colour. The eggs are in the image below.
We also talked about what we could make with eggs, some things are pavlova, cakes, pies, omlettes and many more.
After our talk and lesson we all had a treat. The treat was yummy pavlova with fruit salad and cream.

Mrs Owen then welcomed them too with a korero and spoke about the rules around our school and wished everyone good luck and good sportsmanship.
The results were:

Of our rugby teams, 1 team won and 1 team lost.
Of our miniball teams, 1 team drew and 1 team won.
Of our hockey, only 1 game and we lost.
Of our soccer, both teams lost.
We farewelled Westbrook at 2.40pm with a speech from Sophie Moore and Mrs Owen.
After that, we shared our results with each other in our team.
We enjoyed our first interschool sports exchange for the year, we can't wait for the next one against Lynmore in Week 5 on Thursday 20 May.
